Abstract

Kepala sekolah memiliki peran penting untuk mencapai mutu pendidikan yang tinggi. Hal ini dikarenakan perannya mempengaruhi berbagai aspek di sekolah yang berdampak pada perkembangan kemampuan murid. Salah satu keterampilan yang perlu dikembangkan pada diri murid adalah kemampuan literasi. Hal ini dikarenakan literasi adalah dasar utama dalam proses belajar dan mengajar. Dalam masa kepemimpinan kepala sekolah SMP Kristen X Jambi selama empat tahun, terjadi peningkatan kemampuan literasi berdasarkan Rapor Pendidikan. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif dan dengan pendekatan studi kasus bertujuan untuk memahami 1) strategi kepemimpinan instruksional dan 2) pendekatan kepemimpinan yang digunakan kepala kepala sekolah dalam upaya meningkatkan kemampuan literasi murid. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kepala sekolah berperan signifikan dalam mengembangkan kemampuan literasi murid melalui kepemimpinan instruksional dan pendekatan transformasional.
